Part of the million-selling SH family whoever founding member, the SH50, went on sale in 1984, the four-stroke Honda SH125 first to enter the market in Europe in 2001. Ever before since, for 15 years it has quietly and constantly gone about their mission to provide stylish, thrilling fuss-free transport – becoming one of the continent’s favourites along the way. That first machine laid down the formula for success: a frugal-natured but lively engine linked to nimble, sure-footed handling underpinned by the steadiness that large diameter 16-inch wheels deliver – all delivered with elegant, high quality styling.
Fuel injected with PGM-FI in 2005, over the last 11 years the SH125i has come to represent the supreme in urban transport with the perfect balance of fashion, reliability, economy and totally usability. And of course its story is one of constant, careful development reflecting the developing needs and expectations of owners and Honda’s prefer to keep on giving them an even better version of their SH. And Honda’s team of engineers decided to subtly build on the previous design’s organic and natural framing by deftly working more sinuous, rounded lines into the body tailgate to cab, adding a modern day feel with even more premium presence. An all-natural riding position, with excellent weather protection from the upright front part of the body, ensures comfort and the smooth floor gives an extensive degree of freedom for foot placement and having on and off the machine.
To make lifestyle on-ship the SH125i that little bit more convenient really now fitted with the Honda Smart Key system. The Smart Key itself resides in the rider’s pocket and does away with the need to constantly insert and pull away a key for combustion, fuel cap and couch. A key fuel-saving technology incorporated into the SH125i is Idling End. It’s operated via a switch on the right handlebar and, when empowered, automatically stops the engine running after three secs at idle, and re-starts it instantly when the throttle grip is turned.
It’s seamless in use, due to a swing-back system that returns the turn to its position before air intake, and a decompression mechanism that does away with cranking resistance due to compression. The ACG basic also generates electricity, doing away with a regular system’s motor and things.
The 125cc four-stroke, liquid-cooled 2-valve engine is a masterpiece of mass réunion. The radiator, rather than being mounted at the front of the device has been built into the engine itself for a far simpler and lighter weight layout.
